I came across Rita Bernstein’s work on instagram and I absolutely loved her mixed media paintings, especially due to her mark making. The paint almost looks like accidental smudging or stains left on a discarded parchment…. Or the textured markings on the wall when you peel back layers of wallpaper in an old house. There’s something very rich about them.

So I’ve spent the past week working in this style.

Interestingly I found the smaller piece torn in half was the most effective. I think this is because the more minimal I was with applying the paint the better it looked – however I found this tricky and got carried away layering way too much paint with my first two attempts.
