After several months of (severe) blank canvas fear… I decided to research artists who use linen canvas and came across the work of Cristina Troufa. I loved that she leaves a lot of the linen showing through, and style in which she painted the blue circles I will definitely adopt when painting mine (behind the shaman.)

I also found a site where I could adjust the lighting to the face of a 3D model which has given me more confidence to start painting because the lighting in the reference photo isn’t as clear as I need it to be.

My goal for today was to get the face done at least…

It came along a lot better than I was expecting and I’m now kicking myself I was too anxious to start it earlier.  Despite that it’s a lesson learnt and in the future I will now feel more confident making that first brush mark.
