03 / Experimentation

Continuing from last week, I painted abstract fragments layered with fine liner, using pink, green and brown. I did this to get an idea of shape, form, and colour.

I also dyed another piece of chiffon using green and brown ink, which I then laid over a leaf line drawing and one of the fragmented paintings. Because the pattern on the chiffon was more detailed and contrasting than the pink one, neither the line drawing or the painting showed up that much… So for now I think I’m going to press pause on the chiffon dyeing/layering.

I found an image on Pinterest of a portrait by artist Florian Nicolle that inspired me to try a painting in a similar style. I thought it might lend itself to my human/non-human ‘veil’ idea that I still have yet to find a way to successfully convey…

I wasn’t happy with the outcome (perhaps there needs to be multiple paintings that work together to convey my idea) but I’m pleased to have tried it as I’ve realised that I need to get specific about the materials I’m using.
