I have four volumes of Cereal that I often refer back to for inspiration. An article that stood out to me this time in vol.20 was a photo essay ‘Upon Nature’s Seat’ by Hasse Nielsen & Nathalie Schwer.

I loved the styling and thought these images might be good painting references… As I would like to eventually include/show the human body as a natural form within my paintings. I have to include both human and non-human entities within my work to convey the themes of this project. However I have always struggled with portrait painting as I’m not great at getting proportions right.

Thinking that perhaps I could merge a portrait painting with the abstract style of painting I have been doing thus far – I decided to tape together three sheets of cotton paper including my last abstract painting.

I think this approach was less intimidating for me… However upon reflection I’m not sure whether they merge well.
